Coding Career Change

Learning to code like a wizard or even half as well as my talented partner is my goal. I enjoy my side of our web design business, the administration and P.R. However to make a real contribution I need to get my head around coding, HTML and CSS. I studying with Treehouse, the step by step videos are in great bite size pieces, easy to understand and learn. I’m already confident enough to build a basic website, after just a few hours of training. There is something very satisfying about seeing your creations come to life, all the code, brackets and all making up a slick website.

Beautiful Design

My children are mostly teenagers all very confident, started with coding at an early age. I was more interested in design until recently. Great coding, it is a beautiful thing indeed. Who doesn’t love an amazingly well-designed site?

The internet has truly changed the world, many years ago my husband was a frustrated artist working in retail, every night he’d come home and hammer away at the computer designing things and getting to grips with design software. Since then he’s become a design and coding expert. His good example I’m following, at almost 40 it’s hard to change career. The resources are there, it’s just a matter of fitting the lessons into my life. When I get a day to myself I’ve been trying to do an hour or two of training. Fitting it around, the school run, part-time work, housework and exercise. It’s not enough, though, I want to do more. Let’s face it to be good I’m not going to learn overnight however, there are success stories of people turning their lives around in a matter of months.

The main problem I’m having is that I really want to get stuck in and run before I can walk. Patience was never my strong point hehe! Watch this space and I’ll happily update my progress, struggles and all!

So who wants to join me and be a coding success story too? If I can do this, I’m pretty sure anyone can. So have you re-trained for a new career? ANy tips or advice are always welcome.
